So, die erste Woche ist im Prinzip überstanden! Ich bin extrem müde und könnte dringend mehr Schlaf gebrauchen, aber das bringt die Orientierungsphase leider mit sich. Die International Student Orientation (ISO) war eine wirklich tolle Erfahrung und auch wenn wir von einem Event zum anderen gescheucht wurden, habe ich sicherlich viel mitgenommen. Seit Mittwoch sind wir jetzt in der sog. Customs Week, d.h. auch die 'einheimischen' Studenten sind zu uns gestoßen. Wir erhalten Einführungen in den Honor Code und die Möglichkeiten des Colleges. Für heute stand das Gespräch mit dem sog. Faculty Adviser, in meinem Fall der Dekanin des Physikdepartments, an. Im Wesentlichen hat sie alle meine Kurswahlen bestätigt. Ich werde im kommenden Semester also Physik und Computer Science haben und zusätzlich das obligatorische Writing Seminar, sowie entweder Mathe oder Economy.
Ein weiteres Ergebnisse der Woche ist, dass ich nun einer der Co-Trainer des Hockey-Teams bin, leider kann ich nicht spielen, weil Feldhockey in den USA fast nur von Mädchen gespielt wird.
Interessante Beobachtung am Rande: So langsam gewöhne ich mich ans English sprechen. Ich hatte heute zum ersten mal seit einer Woche Gelegenheit Deutsch zu sprechen, mit einer Studenten aus Österreich und musste mich erstmal wieder darauf einstellen.

The first week is almost over. I'm extremely tired and I could definitely use more sleep, but that's just what comes along with the orientation week. The International Student Orientation (ISO) was an incredible experience, and even though our schedule was pretty much back-to-back I have still gained so many valuable experiences. Since Wednesday we are in the so called Customs Week, which means that the domestic students have joined us. We're getting introduced to the Honor Code and get to see all the possibilities of the college. The schedule for today featured a meeting with our Faculty Adviser, in my case the chair of the physics department. She pretty much approved all of my course choices. Thus, I will be taking, a physics and a computer science class and in addition the obligatory writing placement, as well as either math or economics in the upcoming semester.

Another outcome of the week is that I'm now one of the assistant coaches of the field hockey team. Unfortunately, I can't play myself as field hockey in the US is a sport mainly played by girls.
Interesting observation: I'm getting used to speaking English. Today, for the first time in the past week, I had the opportunity to speak some German with a fellow student from Austria and I encountered some difficulties switching back to German again.
